Apartments in pollonia milos3/10/2024 ![]() The Dako had a little local goat cheese, but the goat cheese was creamier and lighter than what is sold in the States. Incredible!! We made risotto stuffed tomato fava bean with capers, shaved onion and olive oil a Greek style bruschetta called Dako (I could be spelling that wrong) sautéed pork in onion, eggplant, and tomato two kinds of homemade tomato sauces zucchini and mint croquettes zucchini carpaccio and lots more. These six main ingredients were prepared into several different dishes.just for us! My favorite was the pork flambéed in ouzo and a fava bean purée. Our lesson began with an education of Cyclades Cuisine, and the chopping and prepping of eggplant, tomato, red onion, zucchini, fava and a little pork. He was nearly in tears on the drive back to our hotel, grateful and appreciative of all the effort it takes to prepare a "simple" meal. To say that it exceeded his expectations would be the understatement of all understatements. If one has come to Phylakopi, one should not forget to also go to the Archaeological Museum of Milos in Plaka to have a look at their best exhibit: The sculpture of the 'Lady of Phylakopi', which shows that the place had not been too far away from Minoan Crete. This can be seen on site with the city walls being very close to the coastline, in fact atop a high cliff. One thing is obvious: over the last 4000 years the coastline must have changed daramatically. Why would they build a town on the the north coast, exposed to the prevalent winds from the north (like the 'Meltemi' in summer) and on top of a high cliff and far away from the obsidian site. Strangely enough Phylakopi was replaced in historical times with the town of (ancient) Milos, not far from the hill Nychia (where till today plenty of obsidian can be found) and on top by the protected bay of Milos. Since obsidian was still an important merchandise in those days, I wondered why the town hadn't been built near the area, where the obsidian is to be found. Here there are remains of three settlements built on top of each other between 2200 to 1100 BC, thus during the Bronze Age. It is now all fenced in, there are information boards and a giardian's house.įor the untrained eye the site doesn't have much to offer, as is the case with almost all prehistorical excavations in Greece. The last time it happened to be closed with entrance hours mentioned as: Sunday to Thursday 08.00-15.00. Naturally, several times I have visited the archaeological site of Phylakopi, especially in the days, when all was open. ![]() It is the starting point for walk along one of the most beautiful and unusual coast lines in Greece: past Papafranga through Pachaina to Mytakas (where we stop for a swim) and on to the bathtub beach of Sarakiniko, all the way to the small boathouse harbour of Mandrakia, from where we have to take a taxi back to Adamas. The reason is not the archaeological site itself. We solely rely on their shared details and are regarded as “accurate”.Every time I am on Milos with friends I will take the bus from Adamas to Apollonia and tell the driver to stop at Phylakopi.
